When kids make their own books, much of the fun and pride comes from reading it over and over (and over) to other people…albeit classmates, teachers, mamas, dads, brothers, sisters, etc.  This is also an authentic way to build in some fluency.

One concept that a veteran teacher passed on to me was an autograph page, placed at the end of the reader.  The idea is that when the child reads the book to someone, that listener signs his name.

My Autographs Page

So I decided to make a FREE My Autograph Page that you can download and print off {2 pages}.  This particular download should fit in the back of any of the emergent readers from my PreK Packs or my FREE PreK Reading Curriculum: Reading the Alphabet.  You can easily adapt this concept to fit in the back of any student-composed book.

If you’re a classroom teacher, this is a great activity to integrate into Writer’s Workshop, Reader’s Workshop, or at the end of silent reading.

Click here if you’re looking for more ways to build fluency in an authentic manner.
